Province Seeks Proposals for Review of Nurse Practitioner Role

The Provincial Government has issued a Request for Proposals for a review of the role of nurse practitioners in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The review will examine the current state of nurse practitioner practice in the province and identify opportunities to strengthen and support the role over the long term.

Areas of focus will include scope of practice, service delivery models, workload considerations, reporting structures, governance and leadership, recruitment and retention, and future workforce needs.

The Provincial Government developed the RFP in collaboration with Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services and the Registered Nurses Union Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Nurse Practitioners Association also provided input on practice models, governance approaches, leadership structures and research from other jurisdictions.

The government says the initiative is intended to support consultation with frontline health workers and health-care partners while addressing challenges facing nurse practitioners and improving access to health care.

The deadline for proposals is Tuesday, September 29, at 3 p.m.
