Province provides nearly $308K to fire departments affected by Kingston wildfires

The provincial government is providing nearly $308,000 to 23 fire departments that sustained equipment damage or incurred fuel costs while helping fight the 2025 Kingston-area wildfires.

Forestry, Agriculture and Lands Minister Pleaman Forsey says the funding helps replace and reinforce resources used by the departments during the wildfire response.

The investment is intended to strengthen fire protection services, improve emergency response capabilities and support the protection of residents and communities.

The funding covers damaged or lost equipment and fuel costs incurred by the 23 fire departments involved in the response.

Forsey says the support recognizes the efforts of volunteer firefighters from across Newfoundland and Labrador who travel to help communities during emergencies.

“The show of support from fire departments throughout the province during the Kingston wildfires last summer is a true testament to the generosity and community spirit of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” Forsey says.

“This funding will help ensure the firefighters who assisted friends in need last year have the resources they require to continue protecting and supporting their own regions.”
