The provincial government says $10-a-day child care will continue in Newfoundland and Labrador as it consults with providers on changes to its operating grant program.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development said the voluntary program is designed to help child care services offer more affordable care to families across the province.

As part of proposed updates, the government confirmed $10-a-day child care will remain in place through the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Officials are also encouraging child care centres to fill as many available spaces as possible, with the department planning to work with providers over the next six months to boost enrolment.

Funding under the program will continue to be based on enrolment rather than attendance, according to the department.

Consultations with child care providers are ongoing.
