The provincial government is seeking public input on ways to strengthen protections for foreign workers in Newfoundland and Labrador and improve outcomes for employers.
In a news release, the Department of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development said the province-wide consultation will examine how immigration programs are delivered and managed, along with potential updates to legislation, policies and oversight mechanisms.
The department said newcomers arrive in the province through both federal and provincial immigration pathways, including the Provincial Nominee Program and the Atlantic Immigration Program. Officials said the programs help employers across the province meet labour market demands.
The government said it is seeking feedback on how provincial immigration legislation and enhanced foreign worker protections could strengthen public safety, improve program integrity and transparency, and deliver better outcomes for newcomers, employers and the provincial government.
Workers, employers, newcomers and community members are being encouraged to participate through the EngageNL platform or by email.
Targeted consultation sessions with stakeholder groups will also take place across the province to gather a range of perspectives.
