The provincial government is highlighting new economic and technology opportunities stemming from a long-standing Industrial Benefits Agreement with Bombardier.

During a statement in the House of Assembly, Minister of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development Lin Paddock said the agreement, originally established in 2009 following the province’s acquisition of water bombers from Bombardier, included a commitment of $47 million in industrial benefits for Newfoundland and Labrador.

The minister said the Department of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development has been working with Bombardier in recent months to help connect local businesses with new opportunities tied to the agreement.

As part of those efforts, St. John’s-based CoLab AI has secured a multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement to support Bombardier’s aircraft design and manufacturing operations using the company’s artificial intelligence technology.

According to the province, the partnership is expected to support high-value jobs, attract additional international investment, and further strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing technology sector.

The announcement also included plans for enhanced aerospace training supports at College of the North Atlantic aimed at helping prepare future skilled workers for the aerospace industry.
