Province expands mental health and addictions services

The provincial government is expanding mental health and addictions services, including detox beds, mobile crisis response teams and youth supports.
At Humberwood Treatment Centre in Corner Brook, four dedicated short-stay beds are being added to strengthen community-based detox services, along with six additional beds to increase inpatient capacity. The expansion was announced last month.
Recruitment is underway to expand mobile crisis response teams to Carbonear, Burin, Clarenville and Sheshatshiu.
The government has also invested $3 million to hire additional mental health professionals.
Other initiatives include expanding the Doorways program in schools across the province and increasing the number of Integrated Youth Services hubs operated by Choices for Youth.
The province also highlighted investments in sober living homes, increased funding for community organizations such as the Eating Disorder Foundation, and the launch of the Hope and Healing Guide. The guide provides information and resources for survivors of suicide loss and those supporting them.
