The Newfoundland and Labrador government has announced an additional $250,000 donation to the Community Food Sharing Association, bringing the total contribution to $750,000 since December.

Finance Minister Craig Pardy said the funding comes from net profits generated through the sale of American products by the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.

The latest contribution follows a $500,000 donation made by the province last December. The provincial government has committed to providing up to $1 million to the association, subject to continued product sales.

The funding will be distributed through the Community Food Sharing Association to support food banks across the province.

According to the association, Newfoundland and Labrador is home to 60 food banks that collectively serve more than 15,000 people each month, including approximately 4,700 children under the age of 18 and 1,300 seniors. Demand for food bank services has increased by 44.1 per cent since 2019.
