Protesters gather in Stephenville ahead of Trudeau and Scholz announcement
Protests are continuing in Stephenville this afternoon as an announcement with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz prepares to get underway this evening on a hydrogen deal.
The protesters are a mix of those against any development of wind turbines on the west coast and some who do not want the Prime Minister in the area.
Trudeau, Scholz, and several other officials including German corporate leaders will meet in Stephenville this afternoon for what is being described as a "historic announcement".
The accord will allow Canada to export green hydrogen to Germany. Germany has been facing fuel shortages since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The federal government signed agreements with Volkswagen and Mercedes to help meet the growing demand for electric vehicles.
