Progressive Conservatives to form majority government

Newfoundland and Labrador has a new government. Premier-elect Tony Wakeham will now have the task of forming a cabinet and to begin the process of governing.

The night started with both the Progressive Conservatives and the Liberals neck in neck, with the Liberals taking an early lead. Midway through the evening, the Progressive Conservatives took the lead and maintained the lead.

Of the 40 seats, 21 were needed to form a majority government.
