Power knocked out in parts of Conception Bay North due to lightning

Newfoundland Power crews are working this morning to repair damage to a transmission line caused by a lightning strike last evening in a remote wooded area off Route 80 in Conception Bay North.

There are several communities between Grates Cove and Ochre Pit Cove that were left without power. 2200 customers were experiencing an outage; that number has since dropped.

Specialized equipment is required to access the site due to the remote location of the damage. Approximately 1000 customers had power restored this morning. Restoration for remaining customers will take place once the repairs are complete, expected by approximately 5:00 p.m. today.
