Police lay attempted murder charge in connection with Goulds shooting


The RNC has charged 20-year-old Brandon Chafe with attempted murder, robbery, and uttering threats in connection with a shooting in St. John’s.


On Sunday, June 19, police launched an investigation following a shooting in the Goulds. The incident resulted in a 21-year-old man from St. John’s sustaining serious injuries, including gunshot wounds.


Within 48 hours police charged two individuals 20-year-old Brandon Chafe and 22-year-old Thomas Barnes.


Chafe was charged with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and multiple other firearms offences.


Barnes faces charges of aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle.


Chafe is currently in custody and will appear in Provincial Court in relation to the charges.
