Police issue more than 120 tickets on Burin Peninsula

Last Wednesday and Thursday the RCMP conducted traffic enforcement on the Burin Peninsula that resulted in more than 120 tickets being issued.

Officers patrolled in Marystown, St. Lawrence, Grand Bank and Fortune.

Tickets were mainly issued for speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations.

One driver was found driving with a suspended driver’s license. His vehicle was seized and impounded.

Three other individuals were driving without a driver’s license, one of which had a licence that was expired since 1996.

Two other drivers were travelling at speeds more than 51 km/h above the posted speed limit. Their licenses were suspended and they were issued $520 tickets for excessive speeding.

Through the use of equipment in one of the patrol vehicles, a radar detector was detected. A traffic stop was conducted and a radar detector was seized. The driver was ticketed for being in possession of a radar detector.
