Police investigating fatal collision on the Veterans Memorial Highway

The RCMP is investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred on the Veterans Memorial Highway on Tuesday morning that resulted in the death of one person.


At approximately 10:00 a.m., Bay Roberts RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Veterans Memorial Highway near Roaches Line.


Two vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision, while a third was stopped at the scene.


The occupants of both vehicles were transported to St. John’s by paramedics for medical assessment and treatment.


The driver of one vehicle — a 68-year-old man — succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. His passenger sustained injured that are serious, but are not believed to be life-threatening in nature. 


The injuries sustained by the driver of the other damaged vehicle are also not believed to be life-threatening in nature. 


Anyone with dash camera footage, who have not spoken with police are asked to contact Bay Roberts RCMP at 709-786-2118.


The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged.
