Police find three impaired drivers in Downtown St. John's


The RNC took three impaired drivers off the road in the downtown area of St. John's overnight.


Around 9:23 pm officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle performing an illegal turn. The 59-year-old male driver was administered a roadside breath test. It was determined the man was impaired. He received a seven-day suspension on his driving license and his car was impounded.


At 11:10 pm police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to stop for a stop sign. While the officer spoke to the male driver, he observed a strong smell of alcohol emitting from the man’s mouth and that he was slurring his words and the officer immediately believed he was impaired by alcohol. The 39-year-old male was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the RNC headquarters where it was determined that he was over the legal limit for alcohol. The male was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. His car was impounded and he was released to appear in court at a later date.


Finally at 12:48 am officers conducted a traffic stop. The officer observed a faint smell of alcohol coming from the driver. After taking a roadside breath test, it was determined that the man wan was under the influence of alcohol. The 36-year-old male received a seven-day suspension on his driving license and his car was impounded.
