Placentia woman wins $675K Set for Life lottery prize

A woman from Placentia is celebrating a major lottery win after claiming a $675,000 top prize through Atlantic Lottery’s Set for Life game.

Linda Greene said the win is something she had often imagined but never expected would become reality.

“I often dreamed about winning, about having the money to be able to do anything we wanted to,” Greene said. “We have a good life, but we were always just ordinary, working people.”

The Set for Life Scratch’N Win ticket, which costs $4, offers winners a choice between receiving $1,000 a week for 25 years or a one-time lump sum of $675,000. Greene opted for the lump sum payment.

“To be able to do things that you never dreamed you’d be able to do, I think that’s what it’s all about, that and sharing it,” she said. “Never, never, never did I think in my wildest dreams we’d be here.”

Greene said the prize will provide financial security for her and her husband moving forward.

“This gives us the freedom to know we are going to be looked after for the rest of our lives,” she said.

The couple also plans to share some of their winnings with their three adult children and take a family vacation together.

Greene is the second Newfoundland and Labrador resident to win a Set for Life top prize this year, following Corven McDonald, who won in February.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Lawtons location in Placentia. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
