No injuries following early-morning house fire that caused significant damage in downtown St John's.
Fire crews were called to the house fire around 2:10 a.m. on Friday morning in the area of Cabot Street and Flowers Hill after muiltple calls to 911 came in about the large blaze. A resident that lived in the area was outside when he heard the blaze, when newfoundnews was interviewing the individual the male said "I just heard the fire, then seen flames and I run as fast as I could, I banged on the door muiltple times and he said still no answer, so the male broke the window and told the resident to get out of the home and that the house was on fire".
When firefighters arrived on the scene, seconds after being dispatched, they were met with heavy flames and smoke coming from the front of the home. Firefighters quickly started laying attack lines and hooking up an supply line and within fifteen-minutes the fire was knocked down with remaining hotspots.
The reportedly only opponent of the home was taken to a nearby awaiting ambulance for assessment and was later released a few minutes later.
