Emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Ruth Avenue and First Street at around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday for reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.

When crews arrived, the person that had been struck by the vehicle was lying in the roadway. Firefighters treated the person until paramedics could arrive on the scene. The person was then taken to hospital aboard a Newfoundland Health Service ambulance with unknown injuries.

Ruth Avenue between Commonwealth Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue was closed for an hour as members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Traffic Reconstructionist Team investigated the scene.

It is currently unknown what the person's condition is; more information will be provided if it becomes available.
