A Paradise couple is celebrating a life-changing lottery win after claiming a $2-million top prize on a Scratch’N Win ticket purchased in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.

Perry and Yvonne Noseworthy won the top prize on Vault, a $20 Scratch’N Win game offered through the Atlantic Lottery.

Yvonne said she regularly plays Scratch’N Win tickets, particularly new games that appear in retailers’ ticket displays. The couple’s interest in the recently launched Vault game paid off when she revealed the winning ticket.

“My husband often brings me home tickets after work,” Yvonne said. “When I scratched this one, I said, ‘Perry, come see! We won — we won big!’”

The national Vault game launched on April 1 and offers top prizes of $2 million. Four top prizes remain available to be won.

Yvonne said Perry initially checked the ticket to confirm the result before celebrating.

“He turned over the ticket to make sure and said, ‘Yeah, it’s a winner,’” she said. “Then he did his happy dance.”

“That was a $2-million happy dance,” Perry added.

After confirming the win at a local lottery retailer, the couple returned home and shared the news with their daughter during a video call.

“I asked her if we looked any different and she didn’t know what I meant,” Perry said. “I told her, ‘You’re looking at the next millionaires here in Newfoundland,’ and she couldn’t believe it.”

The couple said they plan to use the money to pay off bills, invest and help family members. They also hope to do more travelling, including taking a cruise with their granddaughter.

The win came on Yvonne’s 65th birthday, adding to the celebration.

“When you win the lottery, there’s a lot of joy right off the bat,” Perry said. “You know that you’ve got no financial worries anymore. There’s a lot of emotions.”

The winning ticket was purchased at PJ’s Groceteria in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s. The retailer will receive a seller’s prize equal to one per cent of the winning amount.
