This fall, credit unions across the province raised $8,000 and collected 293 bags of groceries in support of the Community Food Sharing Association and local food banks.

All 37 credit union branch locations across Newfoundland and Labrador collected donations of non-perishable foods and cash from September 15 to November 14.

The participating credit unions were Atlantic Edge Credit Union, Community Credit Union, NLCU, Public Service Credit Union, Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union, and Venture Credit Union.

Collected food items were donated to local food banks, while funds raised were provided to the Community Food Sharing Association during a cheque presentation.

While credit unions in Newfoundland and Labrador have historically supported local food banks and the Community Food Sharing Association, this year’s Fall Food Drive marks the first time all six credit unions have collaborated on a single effort to combat food insecurity.
