Over 200,000 files accessed in cyberattack

The provincial government and Eastern Health provided an update this morning on the cyberattack that occurred in November. Minister of Health and Community Services John Haggie and Eastern Health CEO Dave Diamond provided details.


Over 200,000 files may have been accessed from a network drive from Eastern Health.


The files include both patient and employee information. A manual review is underway to determine the exact number of files accessed.


Information that was compromised dates back as far as 1996 and included medical diagnosis, procedures, the doctor who made the referral, MCP numbers, human resources and administration information.


Eastern Health will send emails to those impacted. There is a number for more information. Anyone with questions can call 1-833-712-3021, this line will not be able to provide personal details.


Eastern Health has been aware of this breach since February 25.


All of the regional health authorities were impacted to some degree. The attack caused delays in services and personal information and personal health information were accessed in some cases.
