Outer Ring Road to close for weekend culvert replacement

A section of the Outer Ring Road will be closed in both directions for the weekend of October 23 to 26 to allow for culvert replacement work.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure says the closure will affect the highway between the Thorburn Road and Team Gushue Highway interchanges, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, October 23, and continuing until 6 a.m. Monday, October 26.

Lane reductions and traffic delays are also expected on Friday ahead of the closure as crews prepare the site and install traffic control measures.

The department says a full weekend closure will allow the culvert replacements to be completed more efficiently and safely, avoiding several weeks of significant congestion and delays that would result from keeping traffic moving through reduced lanes.

Clearly marked detours will be in place, but motorists should expect increased traffic on alternate routes.

Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their trips and follow posted detour signs.
