$23.6 million announced for water and sewer projects across Newfoundland and Labrador

More than $23 million in funding from provincial, federal and municipal governments will support water, sewer and other municipal infrastructure projects across Newfoundland and Labrador.
The $23.6-million investment was announced Monday in Mount Pearl, where approximately $5.3 million will go toward water, sewer and stormwater upgrades along Holden Street as part of the first phase of the Kenmount Hill development.
The project is expected to support approximately 435 existing households and accommodate up to 1,390 new housing units.
The funding is being provided through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, which supports municipal infrastructure improvements needed to maintain existing services and accommodate future housing development.
Newfoundland and Labrador has been allocated $123.1 million from the federal government through the fund. The money is intended to support projects involving drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and solid waste systems.
The provincial government says the projects will help municipalities prepare for population growth, improve infrastructure reliability and enhance residents' quality of life.
The investment also aligns with the government's commitment to multi-year planning for roads, water and sewer infrastructure, as well as prioritizing funding for municipalities working to improve their water supplies.
