A section of the Outer Ring Road in the St. John’s area will be closed Sunday, May 31, to allow crews to remove litter and large discarded items along the highway.

The closure will affect the stretch of highway between Kenmount Road and the Logy Bay Road interchange from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The temporary closure is necessary to provide a safe working environment for cleanup crews operating on and near the roadway.

Traffic control measures and digital display signs will be in place to guide motorists and provide advance notice of the closure.

During the cleanup, eastbound traffic will be diverted off the highway at the Kenmount Road off-ramp near Donovan’s Overpass, while westbound traffic will access the Trans-Canada Highway through the on-ramp at Donovan’s Overpass.

Barricades will also be erected to block access at several entry points along the route, including Logy Bay Road, East White Hills Road, Torbay Road, Aberdeen Avenue, Portugal Cove Road, Allandale Road, Team Gushue Highway, Thorburn Road and Topsail Road.

Littering on provincial highways is prohibited and carries fines ranging from $100 to $500.

Drivers who fail to properly secure cargo so that it cannot leak, spill, blow off, or fall from a vehicle can face fines ranging from $120 to $600.
