The RCMP has confirmed that one person has died and another was left with serious injuries after a pedestrian motor-vehicle collision in Spaniard’s Bay.

An elderly woman is deceased. She was struck while crossing the road near Restaurant 99.

The 43-year-old driver of the vehicle, who showed no signs of impairment, remained at the scene of the collision. It was raining and dark at the time.

For a time, Route 70 in Spaniard’s Bay, between New Harbour Road and Mint Cove Pond Road, was impassable due to the collision.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged. The investigation is continuing.
