Shortly before 9:15 PM on Wednesday night firefighters with St. John's Regional Fire Department were called to Pearlgate Manor on Wilson Crescent in Mount Pearl.

Fire trucks from the nearby Mount Pearl Fire Station were the first to arrive on site and investigate the cause of the smoke that filled the building. All building residents were evacuated as fire alarms sounded and as a precaution.

One woman who was inside the building was given oxygen by firefighters at the scene and later transported to the hospital by a Newfoundland Health Service ambulance, it is unknown what her condition is at this time.

Residents were free to go back into the Pearlgate Manor after firefighters found the cause and used a fan to clear the smoke from the building.
