A two-vehicle collision in Paradise on Thursday evening resulted in serious injuries, with a driver injured having to wait over one hour for an ambulance to arrive.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Topsail Road and the on-ramp to Outer Ring Road eastbound, at 6:50 p.m. for reports of the two-vehicle collision.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they found two sedans that had collided in a t-bone fashion, causing extensive damage to both vehicles involved, and leaving both drivers injured, requiring them to be transported to hospital.
The first NL Health Services Ambulance arrived within thirty-five minutes, however the other ambulance arrived at approximately 8:00 p.m
The driver of the sedan, who was its only occupant, was sent to hospital with reported injuries believedto be non-life threatening. The driver of the silver sedan was reported to have suffered minor injuries. Firefighters with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) assessed the injured individuals until an ambulance could arrive.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) had to closed all westbound traffic leaving Paradise by diverting them all onto the Outer Ring Road, due to significant traffic backup in the area. The scene was cleared up shortly before 9:00 p.m.
