One Person Taken into Custody Following Early Morning Police Operation in Newtown

One person has been taken into custody following an early morning police operation in the community of Newtown.

A public advisory was made by RCMP in the province just before 4:09 a.m. on Sunday morning advising the public of a police operation on Main Road in Newtown.

Officers from the RCMP's Emergency Response Team were also believed to be engaged in this incident.

About an hour and ten minutes later, the RCMP updated the public and advised that the police operation in Newtown has safely concluded with one person taken into custody. And residents could resume normal activities. However, there will be an ongoing police presence in the community as the investigation continues.
