One Dead, Three Injured in St. John’s Rollover Crash; RNC Investigating Impaired Driving

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating a fatal collision in St. John’s that police say involved impaired driving.


Police responded to reports of a single-vehicle rollover near the intersection of Mayor Avenue and Newtown Road at approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday.


The RNC said four people were inside the vehicle when the crash occurred. One person died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.


The remaining three occupants were transported to hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.


According to police, the driver failed a roadside screening test and was issued a licence suspension. Investigators have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.


No additional details about those involved have been released.


Collision reconstruction specialists are seeking witnesses and any video footage from the area before or immediately after the crash. Police are asking anyone with CCTV, dash-camera or cellphone video, or other information related to the incident, to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000.
