Shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, the Clarenville Volunteer Fire Department, along with Clarenville RCMP and Newfoundland Health Services, responded to reports of smoke filling a house on Gregory Place in Shoal Harbour. Fire crews investigated and soon determined that the smoke was caused by a plastic toy melting on a heater, which filled the basement with smoke and prompted the response to the residents.
