NL Health Services says it is preparing to roll out a new province-wide digital health information system later this month.

The system, known as CorCare, is set to launch across sites in Newfoundland and Labrador on April 25.

In a statement, interim CEO Ron Johnson said the platform is designed to modernize health-care delivery by improving access to information, appointment management and test results.

“With patients at the centre, this modern system will improve access to health information, appointment management, and test results, while supporting more personalized care and better health outcomes,” Johnson said.

CorCare will replace multiple existing systems with a single, integrated provincial record, allowing health-care providers to access patient information in real time. Officials say the system is intended to reduce duplication, such as repeated laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging, and eliminate the need for patients to repeatedly provide their medical histories.

Patients will also be able to access their own health information through a new secure portal, MyChart, which will serve as an enhanced version of MyHealthNL.

Training for more than 20,000 staff, physicians and health-care providers began in February. The system will also be introduced gradually in community clinics through a phased rollout known as CorCare Link, with additional supports in place for physicians during the transition.
