NL Health Services first in Canada to achieve national accreditation for medical imaging

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services Provincial Medical Imaging Program has earned national accreditation for every medical imaging location across the province.


This province is now the first province in Canada to achieve this national benchmark.


Dr. Marc Elliott, clinical chief of medical imaging for NL Health Services. “This achievement is a testament to the skill and dedication of our medical imaging teams. With this accreditation, patients can be confident that whether they receive care at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s, or in communities like Trepassey, Fogo Island, Port aux Basques, Forteau, or Labrador City, they are receiving the same high standard of safe, consistent, and quality medical imaging services.”


Assessments were conducted in all 42 medical imaging locations by external surveyors from Accreditation Canada, examining organizational services, policies, procedures, facilities and leadership.


NL Health Services received the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189 Plus accreditation award for Diagnostic Imaging. – an international standard recognizing excellence in quality and safety in medical imaging services.
