NL-FHSA holding annual safety event today

The Newfoundland and Labrador Fish Harvesting Safety Association will host its annual safety event today at the Holiday Inn St. John’s Conference Centre.

The keynote speaker will be Jeanette Russell. Her son Marc Russell, from Mary’s Harbour was lost at sea while harvesting cod. She has made it her life’s mission to advocate for essential search and rescue resourcing for Labrador.

From 2017 to 2021 the number one type of accident for fish harvesters was falling on the boat according to WorkplaceNL.

NL-FHSA is a not-for-profit organization that became operational in 2012 to address workplace injuries, illnesses, and fatalities in commercial fishing.
