Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were in court in New York today. Both entered not guilty pleas; it was their first appearance since being captured by the United States in a military operation over the weekend.

Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.

In court, Maduro told the judge he is still the president of Venezuela.

Maduro has served as the president of Venezuela since 2013. He served as the vice president under President Hugo Chávez from 2012 to 2013, and minister of foreign affairs from 2006 to 2012.
