Moose Vehicle Collision Sends One to Hospital on Monday Night

One person was taken to hospital on Monday night after colliding with a moose on the TCH outside of St. John’s.

Firefighters were called to the westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway west of the Foxtrap weight scales just before 8:40 p.m.. Crews from Mount Pearl fire station arrived and assisted the patient with assistance from NLHS paramedics. The person was then placed on a stretcher and loaded aboard an ambulance where she was then taken to hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP officers from Avalon East district attended the scene along with a wildlife officer to remove the deceased moose from the roadway.

Two westbound lanes of traffic were closed on the TCH just west of the Foxtrap weight scales, traffic was forced to use the merge lane from the weight scales to bypass the accident. Traffic travelling east was also slowed due to emergency vehicles.
