Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood industry generated more than $2 billion in market value in 2025, according to new figures released by the provincial government.

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture reported that the combined market value of the province’s wild fisheries and aquaculture sectors reached $2.11 billion last year, highlighting the continued importance of seafood to Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy.

Shellfish and groundfish remained key drivers of the industry, supporting jobs and economic activity in communities throughout the province.

According to the department’s newly released Seafood Industry Year in Review 2025, the wild fisheries sector accounted for $1.66 billion in market value, while the aquaculture industry contributed $453 million.

Together, the sectors employed approximately 17,000 people, including registered fish harvesters and fish plant workers, in more than 400 communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The annual review, now available through a new interactive online platform, provides data on employment, exports, production, landed volumes and the overall value of the province’s seafood industry.
