The new Urgent Care Centre on Stavanger Drive in St. John's will open to the public on Monday.

Loralie Cochrane is the Manager of Urgent Care. She says the goal of the urgent care centre is to keep people moving through.

The site will be staffed by six nurses, including registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, along with physicians and PCAs. The site will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The goal is to help emergency departments which are blocked.

Urgent care centres are equipped to deal with injury assessments, such as sprains, strains, and minor breaks; skin infections, burns, and cuts; respiratory infections with fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath; stomach illnesses with nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea; and urinary tract infections.
