New Protections Coming for Right Whales

The Federal Government will announce new protections for North Atlantic right whales for the 2020 season today.

Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, will make an announcement on the new measures.

The North Atlantic right whale is a baleen whale, one of three right whale species belonging to the genus Eubalaena, all of which were formerly classified as a single species.

Presently the whales are considered to be endangered.
