New Chair of the Human Rights Commission
Dr. Smita Joshi has been appointed as Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission.
Joshi was appointed to the role on April 19, 2024.
Former Minister of Justice and Public Safety John Hogan acknowledged the appointment on June 3.
Established in 1971, the Human Rights Commission is responsible for investigating written complaints of alleged violations of the Human Rights Act, promoting the Act, conducting education and research designed to eliminate discriminatory conduct.
The Commission also provides information and assists individuals, groups, organizations and governments, on matters related to human rights.
