The Newfoundland and Labrador government says it will begin consultations with early childhood educators as it continues its $10-a-day child care program into the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development announced plans to establish a steering committee aimed at improving wages, benefits and working conditions in the sector, with the goal of recruiting and retaining more educators.

The committee will also examine ongoing workforce challenges and propose potential solutions. Broader consultations with educators will follow, with interested participants invited to contact the department.

The province says it also plans to introduce a dedicated early childhood educator portal within the system, aimed at improving access to up-to-date information about the profession.
