A number of municipalities across the province are taking steps to conserve power amid a power warning.

In St. John's, several facilities have been switched to generator power and are conserving energy wherever possible.

In Mount Pearl, the City has switched the Public Works Depot to generator power. Additionally, recreation facilities, including the Glacier, Summit Centre, Gloria Pearson Community Centre, and Park Place, will close at 8:00 p.m. this evening and will remain closed until Newfoundland Labrador Hydro advises that the risk of rolling blackouts has passed.

In the Town of Conception Bay South, the Recreation Complex will close at 7:15 p.m. this evening and will remain closed until conservation measures are no longer required. Town arenas will remain open at this time, while canteen services are closed. Ice cleaning is operating at a reduced level. Arenas may close if necessary. Worsley Park Building and Parsons Rotary Clubhouse are closed. Non-essential lighting has been turned off, and heat has been reduced in town facilities that are not in use. The Community Park skating rink is closed.

In Corner Brook, exterior lighting in park spaces has been shut off. At the Civic Centre, tonight’s hockey game has been cancelled.
