Heritage Day is observed on the third Monday in February in several provinces and territories.

Heritage Day is intended to recognize Canada’s diverse history, cultures and achievements.

While not a statutory holiday nationwide, the day is officially recognized in jurisdictions including Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Alberta and Prince Edward Island, with each province emphasizing its own unique heritage.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, Heritage Day has often highlighted the province’s distinct cultural identity, from traditional music and storytelling to the history of outport communities and Indigenous peoples. Museums, libraries and cultural organizations typically host exhibits and programming to mark the occasion.
