The RCMP arrested 27-year-old Peter Campbell of Torbay on Adelaide Street in Carbonear yesterday.

Police received information suggesting that Campbell was in possession of a handgun and was hiding out in Carbonear. RCMP officers from Harbour Grace and Bay Roberts detachments, along with the RCMP Emergency Response Team, surrounded the home.

Other occupants of the residence were safely removed from the home and neighbouring properties were asked to shelter in place.

Following negotiations with police, Campbell surrendered himself without incident and was arrested for his outstanding warrant. The RCMP recovered an item that appears to be a handgun or an imitation of a handgun.

The investigation is continuing to determine if charges are appropriate.

Campbell appears in court in St. John’s today to answer to multiple charges laid by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, including robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon or imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon or imitation weapon, numerous counts of theft and breaches of probation.
