RCMP arrested a 42-year-old Stephenville man after he crashed his vehicle into a local Stephenville business early on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to a report of a disturbance involving two individuals outside a business on Main Street in Stephenville just before 7:30 a.m. yesterday. The pair involved were known to each other prior to the altercation.

The dispute escalated and ended when the man crashed his vehicle into the main entrance of the business, causing significant damage to the building and nearly striking the other person.

The vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival but later returned. The driver was taken into police custody.

Wayne Mugford was held in police custody to appear before the courts. He has been charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000, taking a motor vehicle without consent, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

The investigation is ongoing.
