Man charged with McIvers shooting

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has changed a 78-year-old man following a shooting in McIvers


Yesterday morning (Feb. 25) Operational Patrol Services responded to a firearms offence at a residence on Lower Cove Road in McIvers. Responding officers discovered that a firearm had been discharged multiple times and as a result, a shelter-in-place was initiated for public safety. There were no injuries reported.


Officers quickly contained a home and as a result 78-year-old Arthur Parsons was arrested without incident and the shelter-in-place was lifted.


As a result of the ongoing investigation Parsons was charged with:


• Attempted murder

• Careless Use of a Firearm

• Contravention of Storage Regulation

• Pointing a Firearm

• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

• Unauthorized Possession in a Motor Vehicle

• Discharging a Firearm with Intent


He was held to appear in court today.
