RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) has charged 52-year-old Ivan Loder with first degree murder, after police responded to a report of a shooting in Grand Falls-Windsor early Friday morning.

At approximately 4:45 a.m. on April 10, Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP responded to a call for assistance at a residence on Crescent Heights. The call prompted a public advisory, requesting that motorists and nearby residents avoid the area while police investigated.

Upon their arrival at the home, officers discovered a female deceased inside. A second person inside the residence was identified as a suspect and arrested without incident. The suspect and the victim are known to each other.

RCMP MCU West is leading the investigation and has charged Ivan Loder, 52, with first degree murder. Loder made his first appearance in Provincial Court today (April 10).

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is engaged and the investigation is continuing.

Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the community over the next few days as investigators continue their work. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP detachment at 709-489-2121.

While this incident does not pose a risk to general public safety, RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador acknowledges that incidents of this nature are often distressing and cause anxiety in the community. Our officers are committed to public and community safety, and continue to encourage anyone who requires police assistance to contact us.
