A 36-year-old man is facing numerous firearms-related charges after an alleged assault in Paradise over the weekend.
Police responded to a residence shortly before 6 a.m. on May 9, where a woman was found injured. The accused was located at the scene as he was attempting to flee and was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the man and the residence led officers to seize two handguns — one of which was loaded — along with multiple magazines and ammunition. Police also recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, additional rounds of ammunition of various calibres, approximately $20,000 in cash, soft body armour and OC (pepper) spray.
Following an investigation, the man has been charged with a series of offences, including assault, assault by choking, pointing a firearm, and using a firearm during the commission of an offence.
He also faces multiple counts related to firearms possession and handling, including careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Additional charges include unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon with ammunition, and six breaches of a firearm prohibition order.
The accused remains before the courts.
