A man has been charged following a collision in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's on Friday.

Firefighters with the Portugal Cove-St. Philip's Volunteer Fire Department, along with paramedics with Newfoundland Health Services and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers, responded to the intersection of Thorburn Road and Healeys Pond Crescent for reports of a collision.

RNC say they responded to a traffic complaint in the area of Thorburn Road, when they located a vehicle involved in an accident and noted this vehicle had been in a short pursuit earlier.

As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with driving while suspended, flight from police, impaired operation of a motor vehicle, over 80 mg/L of alcohol in 100 mL of blood and six counts of breaching his release order.

Police seized and impounded the vehicle the man was operating, and the 34-year-old was conveyed to the city lock-up and held for his court appearance.

Traffic in the area was significantly backed up as police investigated the collision. Traffic on Healeys Pond Crescent between Kings Hill Road and Thorburn Road was closed for some time.

One vehicle involved suffered significant damage.
