Man charged after reported assault in St. John’s

A 52-year-old man is facing several charges after police responded to a report of an assault in St. John’s on Friday afternoon.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says officers were called at about 1:30 p.m. following a report that a man was assaulting a woman.
Police say the man was arrested and charged with choking or overcoming resistance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, public mischief, breach of probation and two counts of breaching a release order.
The accused was held in custody to appear in court.
