A 43-year-old man is facing multiple charges following an alleged impaired driving incident and brief police pursuit in St. John’s late Sunday night.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the Kenmount Road area at approximately 10:20 p.m. on May 24.

Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, but the driver sped away as police approached the vehicle.

The vehicle was later found in a parking lot. When officers entered the area, the driver allegedly fled again before crashing into a wooded area nearby.

The driver continued attempting to accelerate the vehicle while officers approached. The man was uncooperative and had to be physically removed from the vehicle by officers.

The man was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

He is facing charges including impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and resisting arrest.
