A 42-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an incident in the west end of St. John's on Friday night.

Police responded to a report of property damage in progress at a residence around 8:14 p.m. on March 20. Upon arrival, officers located a man at the scene who was believed to have caused damage to the property.

As officers attempted to arrest the individual, police allege he attacked them by swinging a guitar in a manner similar to a baseball bat. Officers deployed a taser and were able to take the man into custody without further incident.

The man has been charged with assault with a weapon on a peace officer, property damage, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breaching court orders. Police also confirmed there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

He was held in custody to appear in court.
